Plantations Ministry says they have decided to “provide safe locations” – Newsfirst

The Ministry of Plantations has decided to provide lands that are deemed safe to occupants living in landslide prone areas located near plantation estates.

This article creates in me nostalgia for Ghana’s past, when plantation estates littered the countryside under the aegis of several state-owned corporations, providing massive employment and large volumes of cheap affordable produce but poor balance-sheet results. We can try again but this time with private proprietors doing the actual cultivation and the state, providing enabling infrastructure in every wise. The profit motive would ensure operations that are financially rewarding, employment generating in rural areas, abundantly producing large volumes of food and raw materials for industry and returning vibrant livelihoods to rural communities once again
